Ben Gordon Kitchen, age 80, died Sept. 26, 2012, at Hurley Medical Center, Flint, following injuries sustained in a heavy equipment accident.
He was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Ferndale, the son of George and Lillian (Vennevy) Kitchen.
As a boy Ben was reared in the Cass City area and attended the Ferguson School. As a young man he left the area. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany in 1952. Ben worked in many of the construction and mechanical trades and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. In 1970, he returned to the Cass City area, and started his own construction and trucking business. In his later years he was known for employing his trade skills on behalf of his many friends.
Ben is survived by a son, David of Boston, MA and a brother, Ron Kitchen of Alpena.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Virginia (Wilson) Kitchen.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined.
