Mr. Jerry Conrad Greer, age 79, of Cass City, formerly of Wood Dale, IL passed away as the result of an auto accident Friday, October 2, 2015. He was born October 30, 1935 in Altoona, PA, the son of the late Michael and Lois (Shields) Greer.
Jerry graduated from Williamsville High School in NY, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps serving at Paris Island. He was then recruited to Northwestern University, and as an undergrad played basketball, even playing against Wilt Chamberlain. He received his MBA from the University of Illinois, then taught Jr. High and High School, then worked in Food Distribution, then started his own construction company in Wood Dale, where he also served as Mayor (becoming the longest serving mayor there) for 20 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Sons of Norway. On Nov. 23, 2001 he married his wife Yvonne.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Yvonne, daughters, Debbie (Kurtis) Greer-Ploehn of Battle Creek, Donna Greer and Dana (Frank) Maniscalco, both of IL, step-son, Doug (Liz) Jacobs of IL, granddaughter Jade Galinski (who lives with them) and 9 other grandchildren and one great grandchild and a brother, Gordon Gregory Greer of MD, In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Hannah Lynne Maniscalco and a step daughter, Cheryl Le Galinski.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Sat., Nov. 7, 2015 at Cass City United Methodist Church, 5100 N. Cemetery Rd., Cass City. Pastor Jackie Roe officiating. Family and friends may start gathering at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cass City United Methodist Church.
