Beloved Father, Husband and Friend, John H. Wilson, age 60, of Dover, DE left this life in peace on October 24, 2008 in Wilmington, DE. John was born June 9, 1948 to the late Harold Parker Wilson and Alvina Wilson, he was raised on a horse farm in Cass City, MI and from a young age developed a love and respect for horses and harness racing.
He started racing horses around the tender age of 16 at county fairs and his love of the sport turned into a desire to be a top driver and quality horseman. After spending a brief time in the Navy and being stationed at Norfolk, VA, John soon returned to the call of the horses and became knowledgeable in many aspects of harness racing. In his varied career he worked as a blacksmith, trainer, driver and ultimately as a State Stewart for the States of Michigan and Delaware. His career took him to far parts of the world and he spent several years as a driver and later as a judging official in Macau.
John loved to travel, meet new people and share a laugh with old friends. He enjoyed golfing and when time permitted growing fruits and vegetables. He was known for his quick wit and determination. He is survived by his wife Lei Wilson, a son, Warren Wilson of Dover, DE, a daughter, Marianne (John) Gustafson of Hampton, VA, grandchildren, Erik and Gwyneth Gustafson, two brothers, Jim Wilson of Anderson, SC and Henry Wilson of Albion, MI and a sister Mary Alaoui of San Francisco, CA. He will be missed but never forgotten.
A private memorial service will be held. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
