Mr. Lyle N. Melkerson, age 82, of Cass City, MI passed away Sun., Dec. 27, 2009 at his home.
He was born June 29, 1927,in Ray Center, MI, the son of Samuel J. and Myrtle C. L. (Lubahn) Melkerson. Lyle married Phyllis Jeanne Tesch on May 27, 1950 in New Haven,MI, she passed away July 20, 1995, he then married Phyllis Yvonne Kucharyski on Feb. 2, 1996 in Mason, MI. He enjoyed hunting, time at his cabin in National City, and especially loved time with his grandsons and his midget car. Lyle worked as a Veteran's Affairs Service officer for 20 years and then in Skilled Trades for Ford Motor for 20 years. He was a life member of VFW Post 3644, he was a thirty-second degree Mason with Tyler Lodge #317 F. & A.M., Amvets Duncan-Sullivan #72, the Tin Can Sailors and King Midget Car Club. He served in the US Navy during WWII.
Surviving Lyle is his wife, Phyllis Y., children, Lyle "Jack" (Karen) Melkerson of Lapeer, MI, Lyla "Jill" (Greg) Melkerson-Watson of Howell, MI and Mark (Mary) Melkerson of Gaithersburg, MD, step-children, Cheryl (James) West of Dansville, MI, Nancy (Theron) Ody of Cibolo, TX and Sim (Dianne) Kucharyski of Murrieta, CA, and grandsons, Lyle Walter, Scott, Richard, Ryan and Sean. He was predeceased by four sisters, Marion, Lorraine, Edith and Elaine.
Honoring Lyle's wishes cremation has taken place. A service by members of Tyler Lodge #317 F. & A. M. will be held at 2 PM Saturday, May 22, 2010 followed by an Honor Service by members of Cass City VFW Post 3644. Both services will take place at the VFW Post 3644, 4533 Veterans Dr., Cass City.
