Mrs. Myra Kay Tibbs, age 55, of Deford, MI met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at her home, with family and hospice at her side. She was born January 14, 1951 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, oldest daughter of Gerald and Delores (Barrand) Runyan.
While in high school she performed in two musicals, the Pajama Game and Brigadoon, she was in the vocal and dance chorus'. She graduated in 1969 from Southgate High School in Southgate, MI. During her high school years she was in the Christian Youth Group, served as president and treasurer. She went on to technical school and earned a diploma as a Medical Assistant in 1970, then in 1983 and 1984 she earned another diploma as a Registered Medical Assistant. Before this she worked as a church secretary for 5 years at West Mound United Methodist Church in Taylor, MI, and also worked as the nursery school treasurer for 3 years. During this time she met and then on August 9, 1986, married David L. Tibbs in Trenton, MI. She then employed her skill as a Registered Medical Assistant in an Industrial Clinic for several years, which was also located in Taylor, MI., not only were injuries treated, but physical therapies and physicals and drug testing was done for the major airlines. She then moved on to work for a Teen Health Clinic where she was office manager, lab tech, and doctor's assistant. She worked closely with the Dept. of Health doing vaccinations, venereal disease testing, etc. In 1999 she and David moved to Deford, MI where every hunting season her home became a hunting lodge for friends from down state, and oh, the stories she heard! Many other activities she enjoyed over the years were camping, crafts and horseback riding and reading, which took up much of her time also, she was a Girl Scout for ten years, holding the treasurer and troop assistant leader jobs, was also a Job's Daughter, a Rainbow Girl and an Eastern Star.
Myra is survived by her companion, best friend and caretaker of 30 yrs., her husband, David, children, Michelle (Joseph) Verduce of Gaylord, MI, Teresa L. Tibbs of Warren, MI, Paul B. Thompson and David M. (Kimm) Tibbs, both of St. Clair Shores, MI, her parents, Gerald and Delores Runyan of Angola, IN, grandchildren, Steven, Tony and Jack Verduce of Gaylord, Curtis and Emmali Tibbs of St. Clair Shores, a brother, Jerry L (Joan) Runyan of Elkhart, IN, nephews, Jason (Summer) Runyan of Elkhart, IN and Matthew (Jennifer) Runyan of Indianapolis, IN. She was predeceased by her younger sister, Linda S. Runyan in 1976. Visiting will be Tuesday, September 12, from 2 - 9 PM at Thabet Funeral Home, 6255 Main St., Cass City and on Wednesday, September 13 from 10 until an 11 AM service at Colwood United Brethren in Christ Church, 1840 Colwood Rd., Caro, MI, with Pastor Phil Whipple, officiating. Memorials may be made to Home and Hospice Advantage, Cass City.
