Mr. Oscar David Brooks, age 88, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Cass City, passed away Wed., Nov. 30, 2016, at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
He was born Nov. 14, 1928 in Clifford, the son of the late Lewis and Margaret (Ingram) Brooks. On Oct. 15, 1955 he married Patricia Decker in Cass City. They were married for 56 years. Patricia passed away May 25, 2012 He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Cass City and the Cass City VFW Post 3644, served in the U S Army during the Korean War, serving in Germany. Oscar owned and operated Brooks Landscaping for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, making beautiful dollhouses, bird feeders and birdhouses, playing pinochle and most of all loved his grandchildren.
Oscar is survived by 5 children, David (Linda) Brooks of Kouts, IN, Wayne Brooks of Grand Rapids, Lorraine Brooks of Cass City, Brent Brooks of Bay City, and Sally (David) Alban of Big Rapids, 5 grandchildren, Michael and Jessica (Brooks) Denny of Valparaiso, IN, Morgan and Julie (Brooks) McGreevy of Streamwood, IL, Evan Brooks of Kouts, IN, Seth and John Alban of Big Rapids, 2 great grandchildren, Gavin and Elizabeth Denny of Valparaiso, IN and his sister, Lena Maleck of Cass City.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Sun., Dec. 11, 2016 at 2 PM at First Baptist Church, 6420 Houghton St., Cass City. Pastor David Hill officiating. A luncheon will be held before the service beginning at 1 PM. Inurnment will take place after the service at Novesta Township Cemetery. Honor service by members of the Cass City VFW Post 3644 and the U S Army.
