Mr. Otis W. Dorland, age 86, of Decker, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 after a long illness, at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born Oct. 4, 1924 in Flynn Township, the son of the late Otto and Elizabeth (Alexander) Dorland. Otis married Donna Mitchell on March 24, 1950 in Cass City. He was a lifelong farmer and worked for 25 years for General Cable and served in the U. S. Army during WWII, he enjoyed woodworking and reading and writing poetry.
Otis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Donna, children, Cheryl Kilbourn of Cass City, Kathryn Luana of Decker, James Dorland of Deford, Barbara (Dave) McComb of Cass City, Timothy (Lorna) Dorland of Deford, Thomas (Kathy) Dorland of Cass City, Debra (Dave) Heacock of Charlotte and David (Kim) Dorland of Coleman, 24 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sisters, Belva (the late Lloyd) Kuhl of Sebewaing, Shirley (Roy) Wagg of Cass City and Lois (Newell) Harris of AZ and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 great grandchildren, Justin and Micheal Dorland and siblings, Eleanor, Ruth, Dwain, Newell and Chester.
Visiting will be Sunday, July 3, 2011 from 2 until 9 PM and Monday, July 4, 2011 from 10 until an 11 AM service at Deford Community Church, 1392 Kingston Rd., Deford. Pastor David Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Township Cemetery.
