Mr. Peter John Cristiano, Jr., age 85, of Caseville passed away with his family by
his side on April 24, 2018 at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.
He was born March 29, 1933 in Herkimer, NY to the late Peter and Maria Concetta
(Varano) Cristiano. Surviving are his three sons, Peter John (Joan) Cristiano, III,
of South Lyon, Christopher Joseph Cristiano, of Caseville and James Patrick (Kevin)
Cristbrook, of Bloomfield Hills; three grandchildren, Lindsey Anne (Justin) Pintar,
Anthony Joseph Cristiano and Aidan Thomas Cristbrook; two great-grandchildren,
Maximus John Pintar and Emerson Grace Pintar; a sister, Rose (Walt) Skubisz, of
Schenectady, NY and one Brother-in-law, Sam Gelose of Dupont, WA; He is also
survived by his Best Friend and companion Sally McGrath of Cass City. Besides his
parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his sons, Judith Anne Cristiano
Mendelsohn, four brothers, Francis, Thomas, Joseph and Victorio, and two sisters,
Theresa (Carl) Fiorentino and Angelina Gelose.
Peter served in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in North Africa,
he was Honorably Discharged December 14, 1953 and received the Good Conduct
Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He graduated from Herkimer High School,
Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science and Wayne State University with a Master
of Public Administration.He worked much of his life in Public Administration as the City
Administrator and later a City Councilman of Southfield, Michigan. After retiring from the
City of Southfield he worked with Capital Cities Communications (Disney-ABC Television Group)
in New York and then transitioned into the private sector working with his sons in the Cable
Television, Broadcast Radio and Burglar Alarm industries. In 2005 he took on the responsibilities
as the Village Manager of Cass City where he retired from in March 2017. Peter saw the best in
everyone and there wasn’t anyone he wouldn’t help. His most favorite times were sitting around
the family table with his friends, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoying many
delicious Italian dishes and discussing family history, telling stories, talking about travels to Italy
and many fond memories. He moved to Caseville, where the family has had a cottage for 51 years,
when he retired. He loved the water and boating, he was always smiling when spending time on the
bay. Most recently he enjoyed spending time watching the boats on the Caseville harbor on sunny
Sunday afternoons from the docks of the family Marina. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus
Assembly 2372 and Council 8042, The Caseville Fraternal Order of Eagles #3290, Cass City Rotary Club;
Former member of the Tuscola Area Airport Authority and one of the founders of the Oakland County
Economic Development Corporation (Advantage Oakland).
At Peter’s request cremation has taken place and there will be a full military and memorial service with
inurnment at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442, June 21, 2018 at 11AM.
