Mr. Richard L. Root, age 85, of Cass City, passed away suddenly Tues., July 9, 2013 at Caro Community Hospital.
He was born in Cass City, on Aug. 3, 1927, the son of the late Jerome and Margaret (Sabo) Root. He married Glennola TerBush on June 28, 1947 in Cass City. He worked as a mail carrier in Cass City, retiring in 1986, was a volunteer fireman for 40 years for Elkland Township Fire Department. He was also a little league coach, a Boy Scout Leader, belonged to the Community Chest, and loved time with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Glennola, son, Mike (the late Phyl) Root of Gagetown, grandchildren, Steve, Kari, Jenna, Jay and Alisa, 6 great grandchildren, a brother, Donald (Helen) Root of Cass City. He was predeceased by a daughter, Louann (Jay) Herman and 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be Thurs., July 11, 2013 at Thabet Funeral Home, Cass City, from 2 until 4 PM and 7 until 9 PM and on Fri. July 12, 2013 from 10 until an 11 AM service at First Presbyterian Church, 6505 Church St., Cass City. Rev. Michelle Hile officiating. Burial is in Elkland Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Elkland Township Fire Department or to the charity of the donor's choice.
