Mr. Ronald Gene Cody, age 61, of Cass City,
formerly of Gagetown passed away, Friday,
July 4, 2014 at Northwood Meadows, Cass City.
Ron was born November 15, 1952 in Detroit,
the son of the late Eugene and Serene (Works)
Cody. He moved to Cass City in 1959. He worked
as a skilled tradesman for Evans Products. In
March 1993 Ron was diagnosed with the most
dangerous type of skin cancer - melanoma, in
March 1994 he had 3 brain surgeries for cancer,
in total he had 8 brain surgeries for cancer and
infections, his doctor said that it was a miracle
that he survived all the brain tumors and surgeries.
He traveled to Chicago to visit his sister several
times, he enjoyed going to the Chicago Cubs games,
museums and restaurants. On one visit he noticed
all the bikes in the city and decided to get a bike,
he would ride his bike for more then 20 miles each day.
A live production of Ron's story was performed by
professional actors for the broadcast of Unshackled
at Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, which was
broadcast all around the world. After the performance,
Ron gave a speech about his testimony. He also gave
his testimony to 1800 people at Bridgeport Baptist
Church. In addition to bike riding, Ron also enjoyed
playing pool and won several billiards tournaments and
enjoyed fishing and fishing tournaments.
Ron is survived by his sister, Sandy (Joe) Cody Gwinn
and was uncle to Maximillian, Alexander and Reese, all
of Chicago, IL. Visiting is Monday, July 7, 2014 from
4 until 8 PM and Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 10 until
an 11 AM service at Thabet Funeral Home, 6255 Main St.,
Cass City. Pastor David Hill, of 1st Baptist Church of
Cass City, officiating. Burial will be in Elkland
Township Cemetery.
