Mrs. Ruth Eleanor Schenck Esau, age 90, of Cass City, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Hills & Dales General Hospital, Cass City.
Ruth was born June 16, 1917 in Cass City, on the same family farm where she has lived since 1948. She was the daughter of the late Clayton Schenck and Alma Striffler Schenck McKenzie. She married John "Jack" Esau on June 10, 1948 in Cass City.
Ruth was a 1934 graduate of Cass City High School, attended Cass City Junior College in 1935 and then graduated as a teacher in 1940 from Central Michigan University. She taught art and kindergarten in Cass City schools for many years. Ruth worked at Sigma Gamma Hospital in Mt. Clemens and Newington Children's Hospital in CT. She enjoyed playing the piano, was an avid reader, artist, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and writing letters to her many friends.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Jack, children, Eric Esau of Newbury, VT, Mary Beth (Howard) Bialick of Cincinnati, OH and Anne (Steve) Ballard of Cass City, and three grandchildren, Jacob Esau, John Alexander and Jane Elizabeth. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Schenck.
Honoring Ruth's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held June 15, 2008 at 1 PM at the Cass City VFW Post, 3644, 4533 Veterans Drive, Cass City. Burial was in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rawson Memorial Library.
