Thelma Mangert Obituary

Mrs. Thelma E. Mangert, age 96, of Howell, passed away, Wed., Feb. 5, 2014 at her home.

She was born March 25, 1917 in Cass City, daughter of the late Frederick and Doris (Palmateer) Newstead. She widowed and worked for Kroger, retiring after 24 years, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, volunteered with the 4H in Hillsdale County, Headstart, and at Emmanuel Lutheran Church school in Dearborn, and especially enjoyed time with her family.

Thelma is survived a son, William (Joyce) Townsend of Portugal, a daughter, Marcella (Eugene) Heintz of Howell, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren and a brother, Grant Newstead. She was predeceased by two daughters, Alice Cooley and Sherron Lemons and a brother, Jack Newstead.

A visitation will be held Sat., Feb. 15, 2014 at Niblack Funeral Home, 1005 E. Grand River Ave., Fowlerville, from 9:30 AM until a 12 noon funeral service. Rev. Linda Anderson, Spiritual Care Coordinator with Great Lakes Caring Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or Oasis of Serenity Home.
